Back to the roots

Even a broken leg and a big traffic jam could not prevent me from attending my first Apocalyptica concert in Graz in 2005. At this time I was learning to play cello already for eight years and I was absolutely amazed about how these Finns used their celli for rock music. Being classical trained, but with a rock n roll heart made me see the huge range and the possibilities of this wonderful instrument for the first time. This was the night I realized that I picked the right instrument for me. One of the most touching songs of this show was “Nothing else matters”, because an atmospheric harmony of the band and the audience – who passionately took over the vocal part – came up.

Exactly 12 years (to the day!) and many attended concerts later the band finally returned to Graz with their “20 years of Plays Metallica by four Cellos” tour. This time the guys were playing at the Kasemattenbühne on the Schlossberg which was a great location for this exclusive evening. For me it felt like a giant flashback, because Apocalyptica only played Metallica songs and even Antero Manninen was back on stage. Nothing changed during these years; I am still fascinated by their talented and inspiring cello playing, their down to earth attitude after this huge success all over the world as well as their visible passion for this special instrument. Apocalyptica still make me want to play cello and jump on the stage again. Yes, it couldn’t be much more from the heart, because nothing else matters.

PinjaPuu

The forest is a place for me where I can calm down and relax. I feel like I am surrounded by a magical atmosphere and all those beautiful natural colors and shapes make me happy and worry-free. I discovered PinjaPuu in a little eco design and vintage shop called Forget-Me-Not in the heart of Tampere, Finland. Those beautiful designs immediately caught my attention. Now I am able to take a little piece of Finland and the calming feeling of the forest with me every day and everywhere.
Pinja Kärkkäinen is a young Finnish designer who makes nature-inspired jewelry and accessories. The jewelry line is called PinjaPuu which means “Pine tree” in English. The jewelry is made of Finnish birch plywood, it is light as a feather, produced ecofriendly and rich in detail. You can definitely see that Pinja puts a lot of effort in her handmade jewelry line and that she truly loves her job: Not only the jewelry, but also the packaging is designed and made with love.

Spring is here!

I’m very sorry for not posting anything for such a long time. Due to a job change I was really busy the last months. BUT now spring arrived and I am looking forward taking more pictures. I bought myself a new lens which I tested last weekend. A big thank you goes to my lovely sister who was my model that day. It’s always a pleasure to take pictures of her!

Happy holidays!

2016 was such a great year for me – mostly because of you! I would like to thank everyone who worked with me this year. I had so many great projects which made me and my camera really happy.
It was also the first time ever that I had something like a temporary photographic studio at a company for a few months. This was really a big thing for me.
I would also like to say thank you to my subscribers, followers and basically everyone who visited my homepage/instagram page and/or gave feedback on my pictures. I wish you happy holidays and all the best for 2017! I don’t know what the next year will bring, but hopefully I will be able to show a lot more photographs and I’m looking forward posting them for you!

Perchten

Also this year I took pictures of the “Perchten” which are wild pagan spirits widespread throughout the Austrian region. When they appear alone or in groups with their masks and bells in the night I’m always a bit afraid, but it would be a pity not to take pictures of this tradition.

Großglockner

A month ago my family and I decided to go on a hike close to the Großglockner – the highest mountain of Austria. It was really impressive to walk the road near its peak and the scenic glacier that supplements it. We had a magnificent view on this sunny day and enjoyed the gorgeous panorama the whole day.

A Photographic Journey

Martin Parr is one of my favourite photographers of all time. His current exhibition “A Photographic Journey” at Kunst Haus Wien is ending soon (on 02.11.2016) – I went all the way to Vienna just for this exhibition yesterday. The Kunst Haus Wien is a gorgeous museum designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser and hosts the world’s only permanent exhibition of Hundertwasser’s works as well as temporary exhibitions such as Martin Parr’s photographic journey. It was a great experience to finally see Martin Parr’s pictures in real life and get the giggles because of the humoristic way his photographs are taken. If you are in Vienna right now I would highly recommend “A Photographic Journey”. Martin Parr has also created the photo series “Cakes and Balls” – a series dealing with the clichés and traditions in Vienna – especially for this exhibition. Don’t miss it!
